 How to Create the Recovery CD Minimize
Please follow these instructions if you would like to know how to burn an ISO image to CD.

You will need:
  • You will need a PC equipped with a CD writer drive.
  • A blank CD.
  • Software to burn a CD Image (ISO) file to a CD. There is free software such as DeepBurner (direct download) and ImgBurn which can do this.

Instructions for DeepBurner
  1. Extract the ISO file from the downloaded zip file.
  2. Start DeepBurner.
  3. Select the 3rd option ("Burn ISO Image").
  4. Browse for the ISO file using the "..." button on the right.
  5. Select the Drive, you will only need to do this if there is more than one CD writer in your PC.
  6. Click "Burn ISO" to start the write process.

Instructions for ImgBurn
  1. Extract the ISO file from the downloaded zip file.
  2. Start ImgBurn.
  3. Select the Source file, this is the ISO file you downloaded.
  4. Select the Destination Drive, you will only need to do this if there is more than one CD writer in your PC.
  5. Make sure Verify is ticked.
  6. Click on the icon of a disc to start the write process.

Instructions for Mac OS X
  1. Extract the ISO file from the downloaded zip file.
  2. Open Disk Utility which can be found in Applications/Utilities.
  3. From the File menu select select 'Open Disk Image'.
  4. Select the ISO image from the file browser.
  5. Insert a blank disc and then click Burn.
    

 How to Install the Recovery CD Minimize

The installation takes about 40 minutes, it’s mostly automated so once started it can be allowed to complete unattended. All instructions are presented on the monitor so make sure one is connected. Open the keyboard drawer as you will be asked to press keys and keep the CD close to hand.

  1. Warning: All data on the console will be wiped, this includes show files so please save any shows to a memory stick before proceeding.
  2. Power Off the Pearl Expert.
  3. Find the CD eject button, in the next step you will need to press it to eject the tray and load the Recovery CD.
  4. Now, power up the console, open the CD drawer, load the CD and close the CD tray. Try to do this in less than 10 seconds.
  5. Press the Space bar on the keyboard when you see the message "Press any key to Boot from the CD..." you have 3 seconds to do this.
  6. If all goes well, you will see the message "Windows is loading files..." together with a progress meter below. If the console fails to boot from the CD then either the Recovery CD was not correctly created or you were too late with pressing a key. Power cycle the Pearl Expert and press a key to boot from CD when asked.
  7. Wait until the Avolites logo and the message "Welcome to the Pearl Expert" appears on the monitor. You are now ready to being the install procedure.
    1. Press Enter on the keyboard or click on Next to begin.
    2. Read the license agreement to the end, using the down arrow button or Space bar to scroll.
    3. When you reach the last page, press Enter or the Agree button to continue.
    4. Now input the serial number which can be found on the rear of the console: PEXP-xxxx, where xxxx is the number to type in.
    5. If you make a mistake press L to clear the input field and start again, press Enter to confirm and begin installation.
      Note: If the number zero does not work, please ensure Num Lock is not enabled.
  8. The install process will now begin. This can take anywhere between 25 and 45 minutes and depends on the hardware in the console.
  9. The screen resolution will be set to 1024 x 768. This can be changed from Tools->Control Panel->External Monitor.
  10. Open the USB Expert Console and carry out a panel upgrade. Follow instructions in this document.
  11. Install the latest Fixture Library.
